Water and energy utilities are executing on the largest coordinated infrastructure investment in years, and the funding has already begun allocation to contract RFPs. The Department of the Interior has finalized $889 million in water infrastructure investment across six Western states. The Department of Energy has opened a $1.9 billion transmission modernization program. A single Texas grid loan closed at $3.26 billion to support nearly 100 transmission projects.
Each of these programs fragments into dozens of individual procurements, bid bonds, performance bonds, and payment bonds spanning canal rehabilitation, pipeline replacement, and grid modernization work, much of it running on overlapping timelines and drawing from the same skilled trades and subcontractor base. Clients who have historically bid in one segment, water utilities or electrical transmission, may increasingly compete for work.
Our latest article breaks down where this capital is being allocated, what is driving parallel demand growth on the electric grid, and what to evaluate in a client’s backlog, aggregate limits, and WIP schedules before procurement timelines tighten.

September marks the unofficial end of summer, and it opens with Labor Day on Monday, September 7. It’s a holiday with real meaning for our industry, set aside to honor the workers who build, pour, wire, and frame the projects that keep our communities growing. Before the grill fires up or that long-weekend getaway begins, take a couple of minutes to watch this interesting video on the history behind Labor Day.
A sincere thank you to the contractors, tradespeople, and partners who make what we do possible. Enjoy the long weekend, you’ve earned it.
